The organisation

Our client is an established organisation operating within the real estate sector, with operations across Europe.

Based within its London finance function, you will work as part of a collaborative European accounting team, gaining exposure to different stakeholders and areas of the business. There will also be opportunities to contribute to improvements in existing accounts payable processes and ways of working.

The role and responsibilities

Reporting to a senior member of the European accounting function, the Accounts Payable Specialist will be responsible for supporting the accurate processing, payment and reporting of supplier invoices.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Setting up, onboarding and maintaining vendor records in line with internal policies.

  • Processing supplier invoices, ensuring accurate general ledger coding and allocation to the appropriate approval workflows.

  • Liaising with internal and external property managers to ensure invoices and supporting documentation are received promptly.

  • Raising payments through banking systems and preparing weekly payment runs.

  • Matching invoices against purchase orders, work orders and supporting documentation.

  • Responding to supplier queries and performing vendor account reconciliations.

  • Supporting the monthly accounts payable close and reconciling balances to the general ledger.

  • Preparing aged accounts payable reports and investigating outstanding balances.

  • Identifying opportunities to simplify and improve invoice processing procedures.

  • Supporting the wider European accounting team with additional accounts payable requirements as needed.

The skills needed and requirements

To be considered for this Accounts Payable Specialist position, you will ideally have:

  • At least 3 years' experience in a dedicated accounts payable or purchase ledger role.

  • Strong hands-on experience across the accounts payable function, including invoice processing, payment runs and reconciliations.

  • Experience working within an international finance environment or supporting European entities, particularly French or German entities, would be advantageous.

  • A good understanding of accounting procedures and general ledger processes.

  • Confidence working across multiple accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines.

  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently.

  • Strong communication skills and confidence liaising with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Working knowledge of Yardi accounting software would be beneficial but is not essential. Previous experience within the real estate or property sector, or a relevant finance qualification such as AAT, would also be advantageous.

French or German language skills are not required.

The Accounts Payable Specialist will be based in London on a permanent basis, offering a salary of £32,000-£35,000 per annum. Occasional travel to other European locations may be required depending on business needs.
