International Tax Manager - #2175968
Cedar
London | £65,000-£70,000 + benefits | Permanent, office-based 5 days a week
The opportunityWant to be the first tax hire for a fast-growing international business operating across several European countries?
Following a period of significant growth, the business is bringing in dedicated specialists for key functions, and tax is next.
This is the first tax hire in the business. It's an ideal first move in-house for a newly qualified tax professional who wants real ownership and visibility early in their career.
The business already works with external advisers in each country, and that won't change. Your job is to take charge of the tax agenda: manage the advisers, make sure the business gets the right advice at the right time, and make tax work more proactively as the group grows.
This isn't about bringing tax in-house to cut adviser spend, and it isn't a Head of Tax role setting strategy. It's a hands-on job leading tax day to day, with the transfer pricing project and global mobility as early priorities.
What you'll be doing- Running international tax compliance: owning the overall process across the group's territories and making sure advisers deliver the right work on time.
- Leading the transfer pricing project: helping shape the approach, then overseeing the advisers' work on documentation and implementation.
- Global mobility and employment tax: managing the tax side of cross-border working and benefits in kind. Labour mobility is the business's single biggest compliance challenge.
- Managing advisers: coordinating advisers in the UK and every other territory, challenging their recommendations and getting the right answers for the business, not just answers.
- Broad tax coverage: supporting compliance across corporation tax, VAT and employment taxes.
- Finding tax efficiencies: spotting chances to be more proactive and tax-efficient where it makes sense.
- Improving processes: strengthening tax processes and procedures so they keep pace with the group's growth.
- Business partnering: working closely with the Group Finance Director, the Financial Controller and the wider finance team so that tax is considered early, not after the event.
- A qualified tax professional (ACA, CTA, ADIT or similar), newly or recently qualified.
- A solid technical grounding in corporate tax and international tax compliance.
- Confident managing advisers and able to challenge them constructively.
- Proactive and hands-on, with the drive to get things done.
- Able to understand how the business works, work things out for yourself and ask the right questions.
- Comfortable in a fast-moving business where processes are still developing and you won't always have every answer to hand.
- From practice or in-house. Big Four, mid-tier and industry backgrounds are all welcome.
You don't need to be the finished article or an expert in every country. The business values judgement, initiative and confidence most of all.
Why this role?- You'll be the first in-house tax hire and the business's resident tax expert, owning the tax agenda from day one.
- It's a broad international role covering compliance, transfer pricing and global mobility.
- You'll have direct exposure to senior finance and the wider business.
- There's real room to grow in a business with ambitious growth plans, with responsibility and complexity increasing as it expands into new territories.
- You'll be part of a collaborative, office-based team in London.
This role is office-based 5 days a week, Monday to Friday. There is no flexibility on this.
