A new start-up bank in London is seeking a Financial Controller to design and implement the financial foundations of its organisation. This is a rare opportunity for you to play a pivotal role in shaping the finance function from inception, supporting licence application, mobilisation, and launch. You will be instrumental in creating scalable processes, robust governance structures, and a future-proofed finance operating model that supports significant growth.

What you'll do:

• Design and implement the bank's finance operating model, ensuring it is scalable and capable of supporting future growth.
• Establish the controllership framework from inception, developing accounting policies and procedures tailored for a regulated banking institution.
• Build robust finance processes and governance structures that align with regulatory requirements and best practices.
• Create an organisational design for the finance team, including future staffing plans and accountability structures.
• Develop statutory and management reporting capabilities, establishing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processes for accurate financial reporting.
• Lead the implementation of general ledger systems and define chart of accounts and reporting hierarchies in collaboration with technology teams.
• Support the development of automated reporting tools and data capabilities to enhance efficiency and scalability.
• Embed a comprehensive financial control framework with balance sheet controls, reconciliations, and compliance measures.
• Partner with Regulatory Reporting, Risk, Treasury, Operations, Technology, Product teams to ensure alignment across functions.
• Recruit, develop, mentor, and lead the future finance team while fostering a high-performance culture.

What you bring:

• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with proven experience in banking or regulated financial services environments.
• Experience supporting banking licence applications or working within bank mobilisation environments is highly desirable.
• Significant background in financial control and reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to build or transform finance functions from inception or through major change programmes.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills enabling effective communication with executive teams, Board committees, regulators, and investors.
• Proven track record in implementing finance systems architecture including general ledger setup and automated reporting tools.
• Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments where entrepreneurial thinking is required to solve novel challenges.
