SEND Class Teacher (Non-QTS)

Location: Hammersmith, London
Salary: £29,336-£42,429 per annum
Contract: Full-time, permanent (subject to registration and school opening)
Age range: 8-16 years (Years 4-11)
About the role
As Class Teacher, you will take day-to-day responsibility for a small class, leading teaching, learning, assessment, pupil progress and pastoral provision.
You will deliver the school's non-specialist curriculum, adapting teaching to meet individual needs and ensuring that pupils make meaningful progress towards their individual learning goals and EHCP outcomes.
You will work closely with Teaching Assistants, specialist teachers, families and other professionals to provide a consistent, supportive and ambitious learning experience.
Although QTS is not required, you will receive structured professional guidance, coaching and quality-assurance support from qualified teacher colleagues and the Headteacher.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner looking to develop their teaching practice further within a supportive professional environment.
Key responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the day-to-day teaching, learning and pastoral provision of a small class.
  • Plan, deliver and assess engaging, inclusive lessons using the school's curriculum frameworks.
  • Understand pupils' individual strengths, starting points, EHCP outcomes and communication needs.
  • Adapt teaching and learning to support a range of SEND profiles and individual learning needs.
  • Lead and deploy the class Teaching Assistant effectively.
  • Monitor, record and evidence pupil progress, attendance, interventions and agreed pastoral actions.
  • Work collaboratively with specialist teachers, families and external professionals.
  • Maintain a calm, consistent and positive classroom environment.
  • Follow safeguarding, behaviour, attendance, equality, online-safety and health-and-safety procedures.
  • Recognise, record and report safeguarding concerns promptly in line with DSL/DDSL procedures.
  • Participate in coaching, professional development, moderation, learning walks and curriculum reviews.
Essential requirements:
  • Successful experience teaching or leading learning with children or young people.
  • Demonstrable teaching competence and secure subject knowledge.
  • Ability to plan, deliver and assess effective learning.
  • A good understanding of SEND, adaptive teaching, communication, emotional regulation and reasonable adjustments.
  • Strong safeguarding awareness and sound professional judgement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and respond positively to professional guidance and feedback.
  • A commitment to reflective practice and ongoing professional development.
Desirable experience and qualifications:
  • A degree, Level 6 qualification, relevant vocational qualification or substantial equivalent expertise.
  • Experience working in a special school, SEND setting, alternative provision or resource base.
  • Experience supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, SEMH, SLCN or complex learning profiles.
  • Experience with Entry Level, Functional Skills, GCSE or unit-award accreditation pathways.
  • An interest in working towards a recognised teaching qualification or QTS route.
