About

Are you a Data Scientist with experience in the insurance industry and an interest in using advanced analytics to solve real business challenges?

We are working with a leading international insurance business looking to appoint a Data Scientist to help develop and embed a dedicated Claims Analytics capability. This is an opportunity to apply your technical expertise to real-world insurance challenges, using data, statistical analysis and machine learning to improve claims performance, operational efficiency and business decision-making.

Working closely with senior Claims stakeholders and wider Data and Technology teams, you will take ownership of analytical projects from initial investigation through to model development and implementation. This is a hands-on position where you will have the opportunity to shape how data science is used across the claims function.

The Role

  • Develop and deliver statistical and machine learning models to address key business challenges within Claims.

  • Analyse complex datasets, identifying trends, patterns and opportunities to improve claims performance and outcomes.

  • Apply data science techniques to areas including claims forecasting, triage, severity, recoveries, claim progression and resource planning.

  • Work with structured and unstructured data, including claims records, handler notes, adjuster reports and correspondence.

  • Build predictive models and analytical tools that support better decision-making across the claims lifecycle.

  • Work closely with Claims, Underwriting, Actuarial, Portfolio Management and Technology teams to translate business requirements into analytical solutions.

  • Establish and improve data foundations, bringing together claims, policy, exposure and financial information.

  • Present complex analytical findings in a clear and commercially relevant way, ensuring insights are translated into practical business improvements.

  • Support the implementation, testing and ongoing development of analytical models, ensuring appropriate data quality, validation and governance.

About You

We are particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have a strong technical background in Data Science and have applied their skills within the insurance sector.

You will ideally bring:

  • A background in Data Science, with hands-on experience developing statistical models, predictive analytics or machine learning solutions.

  • Previous experience working within the insurance industry, ideally in Claims, Claims Analytics or an insurance-focused data science function.

  • Strong programming skills in Python or R, alongside practical SQL experience.

  • Experience working with large and complex datasets, identifying patterns and turning data into meaningful insight.

  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques and their application to commercial business problems.

  • An understanding of insurance data, claims processes and the wider insurance lifecycle.

  • Experience working with unstructured data, text analytics or large language models would be beneficial.

  • The ability to communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders and influence business decisions.

  • A commercially minded approach, with the ability to take analytical projects from concept through to implementation.

Experience within Specialty Insurance or the London Market would be advantageous, although experience across other areas of general insurance will also be considered.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing analytics function where you will have the autonomy to influence its direction and make a tangible impact on the wider business.

You will be able to combine technical data science expertise with a genuine understanding of insurance, developing solutions that go beyond reporting and provide meaningful improvements to claims decision-making and operational performance.
