Enterprise Architect

6-Month contract - Inside IR35 - market rate

London based - hybrid working - 1-2 days a week onsite

Insurance sector - Insurance/Reinsurance/London Markets experience required

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect to support a strategic transformation agenda within a specialty insurance organisation operating in the London Market. The role will work closely with senior business and technology stakeholders, including the Head of Business Transformation, to shape enterprise architecture direction, connect business strategy to technology strategy, and ensure that change initiatives align to a coherent target-state architecture.

The Enterprise Architect will provide a cross-domain view spanning data, integration, applications, cloud and business architecture. A key part of the role will be to bridge individual architecture disciplines - particularly data architecture - into a broader enterprise roadmap, define strategic principles and target states, and help guide investment and transformation priorities across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain enterprise architecture views covering business, data, application, integration and technology domains.
  • Work with senior stakeholders to translate business transformation objectives into clear architecture strategy, target-state designs and actionable technology roadmaps.
  • Partner closely with the Head of Business Transformation and senior technology leaders to provide architecture input into strategic planning, prioritisation and investment decisions.
  • Bridge data architecture into the wider enterprise architecture, ensuring data models, information flows, integration patterns and platform choices align with enterprise strategy.
  • Define current-state, transition-state and target-state architectures, identifying gaps, dependencies, sequencing considerations and strategic enablers.
  • Create and evolve multi-year roadmaps that show how capabilities, platforms and applications should change over time.
  • Provide architectural oversight across major transformation programmes and ensure local solution choices remain aligned to agreed enterprise principles.
  • Facilitate architecture workshops and decision-making forums with business, programme, data, engineering, security and infrastructure stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify the technology estate, reduce duplication, strengthen integration, improve data reuse and increase cloud adoption where appropriate.

Strategic Architecture Focus

  • Enterprise strategy alignment - connect business priorities, transformation goals and technology direction.
  • Roadmaps and target state - define pragmatic transition paths from the current estate to a more strategic future architecture.
  • Data strategy and architecture - ensure data domains, modelling, governance, analytics and data platforms fit within the enterprise vision.
  • Application and platform rationalisation - identify opportunities to simplify, modernise or consolidate the estate.
  • Integration architecture - drive consistent API and integration patterns and reduce point-to-point dependency.
  • Cloud strategy - guide the use of Azure and other strategic platforms in line with security, resilience and cost considerations.
  • Architecture governance - ensure strategic decisions are documented, traceable and adopted consistently across programmes.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience as an Enterprise Architect, Principal Architect, Lead Architect or senior cross-domain Solution Architect.
  • Proven ability to define enterprise architecture strategy, target states and technology roadmaps.
  • Experience working directly with senior executives, business transformation leaders and senior technology stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture and the ability to connect data strategy with broader enterprise architecture.
  • Experience across multiple architecture domains, including applications, integration, data, cloud and infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure and modern cloud architecture principles.
  • Ability to assess complex technology estates and identify simplification, rationalisation and modernisation opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of architecture governance, principles, standards and design assurance.
  • Experience guiding programmes through current-state, transition-state and target-state architecture decisions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to present complex architecture topics clearly to senior non-technical audiences.
  • Specialty insurance, commercial insurance, Lloyd's or London Market experience

Highly Desirable Experience

  • Understanding of broker, carrier, underwriting and delegated authority operating models.
  • Experience with policy administration platforms and complex insurance application estates.
  • Experience with Snowflake, Talend, Azure API Management, Salesforce and/or Unqork.
  • Understanding of enterprise data governance, data products, canonical models, master/reference data and analytics architecture.
  • Experience shaping transformation programmes involving legacy modernisation, cloud adoption, application rationalisation or data platform change.
