£35,000–£45,000 | Full-time – hybrid working, 2 days in London.
An exciting opportunity to join a successful, owner-managed construction business that continues to grow organically.
The business is looking to appoint its first dedicated finance professional to work closely with the MD and Directors, taking ownership of the day-to-day finance function.
To date, the MD has managed finance alongside their wider responsibilities. They're now looking for someone who can take this on, bring structure, dedication and organisation to the process and support the continued growth of the business.
The Role
Using Xero, you'll manage the day-to-day transactional finance, whilst also developing an understanding of the financial performance of individual projects.
You'll have regular contact with the MD and operational team, helping ensure costs are accurately recorded, funds are allocated appropriately and projects are financially controlled.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing day-to-day purchase ledger, sales ledger and general bookkeeping.
- Processing supplier invoices, payments and customer receipts.
- Managing bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Monitoring cash flow, upcoming payments and expected receipts.
- Tracking costs and expenditure across multiple construction projects.
- Allocating costs to the relevant projects, ensuring accurate project reporting.
- Monitoring project budgets against actual expenditure and highlighting any variances.
- Helping manage the allocation of funds across projects, including supplier commitments and subcontractor payments.
- Supporting project costings and providing financial updates to the MD and Directors.
- Assisting with month-end processes and preparing information for external accountants.
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting as the business grows.
About You
This role could suit an experienced Bookkeeper, Accounts Manager or Finance professional looking to take the next step in their career.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience in a broad transactional finance or bookkeeping role.
- Good working knowledge of Xero or a similar accounting package.
- Strong Excel and organisational skills.
- An interest in project costing, budgeting and cash flow management.
- The confidence to work directly with business owners and operational colleagues.
- A proactive approach and the ability to work independently.
Construction industry experience would be advantageous, although not essential. An understanding of project-based businesses and cost control would be particularly useful.
What's on Offer?
- Salary of £35,000–£45,000 depending on experience.
- Excellent benefits
- Full-time position.
- Hybrid working available, with a minimum of two days per week in the London office.
- Direct access to the MD and Directors.
- The opportunity to take ownership of the finance function and develop the role as the business grows.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants more than just a transactional accounts position and would enjoy becoming an important part of a growing business.
