Job Description

The Media Technology & Infrastructure team within NBCU’s Operations & Technology (O&T) Organization, has an opening for a Software Support Engineer to provide development support for internally developed Broadcast applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting issues and helping to identify (including development of) solutions to ensure our applications are running smoothing.

  • Prioritize user issues through the ticketing system (ServiceNow, JIRA) and maintain communication through completion and/or escalation.
  • Work closely with our application and infrastructure partners to identify, understand, and develop monitoring approaches for key system health metrics
  • Participate in root-cause-analysis for significant incidents
  • Assist in remediation and design efforts to improve/automate error-handling failure scenarios
  • Analyze complex monitoring and alerting patterns, and provide clear guidance and advice to collaborators for which tool, which pattern, which alert provides the desired Observability outcome
  • Utilize OP5/Nagios monitoring solution; support the implementation and expansion of our monitoring footprint.
  • Advance our event management/AIOps offering, correlating/deduplicating noisy event streams & developing automated workflow responses for commonplace events as appropriate
  • Collaborate with application and infrastructure partners to identify and ingest key logs and event streams into Splunk & related log aggregation systems
  • Participate in on-call support rotations


  • Strong technical expertise and troubleshooting skills for large-scale distributed computing systems and software
  • Passionate about collaboration, shared responsibility, and SRE and DevOps culture
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically about problems, decipher user preferences versus hard requirements, and effectively use online and onsite resources to find an appropriate solution with little intervention.
  • Self-motivated independent worker with a positive and professional attitude
  • Able to communicate effectively in a diverse team of varying skillsets and proficiencies, including the ability to relate complex information and business process needs to both technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in an Engineering discipline, Computer Science, Cyber/Information Security, or equivalent practical experience
  • 2+ years of experience in supporting high volume or large-scale environments
  • Experience with and ability to write scripts (PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.)
  • Windows and Linux systems administration skills, across distributions
  • Experience with large-scale distributed infrastructures, including technologies for clustering and load balancing
  • Experience working with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) tools and systems
  • Understanding of relational databases (MySQL, Oracle, etc)
  • Understanding software development in a DevOps culture
  • Knowledgeable in public and private cloud technologies
