Architectural Specification Advisor – Join Our Innovative Technical Design Group
Are you passionate about shaping the technical backbone of world-class architecture? At Foster + Partners, we are seeking a talented Architectural Specification Advisor to join our Technical Design Group, playing a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, sustainable, and technically advanced buildings.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to some of the most innovative projects worldwide, collaborating with our in-house experts in façades, fire safety, sustainability, and building technology. You’ll work alongside our architectural teams to develop robust, high-performance specifications that align with global and Foster and Partners best practices, utilising cutting-edge materials and evolving industry standards.
Your Role & Responsibilities
• Lead and support the development of in-house project specifications using Foster + Partners bespoke documents for our global portfolio, ensuring they meet technical, regulatory, and sustainability requirements.
• Provide strategic input on technical design, specification development, and procurement strategies, working closely with our London based teams and international offices.
• Collaborate with the Integrated Specialist teams at Foster + Partners to ensure specifications reflect the latest industry advancements and Foster + Partners' technical best practices.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of materials, construction techniques, and innovative building systems, ensuring specifications meet current regulations, codes, and legal requirements across diverse markets.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of office master specifications, improving standardisation and quality assurance across projects.
• Attend and contribute to internal and external meetings, assisting in the preparation of technical project documentation.
• Support the Technical Review Group in ensuring specifications align with best practices and Foster + Partners quality requirements.
What We’re Looking For
• Proven experience in architectural specification writing, with a strong understanding of building systems, materials, and procurement strategies.
• Strong technical design knowledge, with experience working on high-profile projects across the UK, and/ or the US, Middle East, or other international markets.
• A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work across multiple disciplines, including façades, fire safety, safety, and sustainability.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, InDesign and experience with specification software (such as NBS Chorus or other comparable specification writing software systems).
• Ability to work logically and methodically, ensuring high quality outputs within tight deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to both internal teams and external consultants.
• A proactive approach to problem solving, with the ability to recognise when issues need to be escalated.
Desirable Skills & Experience
• Knowledge of building physics, energy efficiency, and sustainable design principles.
• Familiarity with UK and/ or the US, and Middle Eastern building regulations and specification documentation.
• Fluency in additional languages (verbal and written) would be desirable.
• Familiar with NBS Chorus Uniclass 2015 classification system.
• Experience with MicroStation or other technical design tools.
