What difference will you make?

If you're applying you don't need us to tell you how significant a health challenge obesity is, for those living with obesity - and for the NHS and the economy. This is an opportunity to become a Trustee and Obesity Adviser of an independent health think tank, whose guiding principle is that prevention is better than cure. We research the root causes of preventable illness, both physical and mental; research ‘what works’ in the UK and other countries; and share our findings, to influence policy and practice. If you'd like to help us make a difference when it comes to the UK tackling obesity we look forward to hearing from you.

What are we looking for?

Commitment to our guiding principle that prevention is better than cure and our belief that health in the UK should be more than a postcode lottery. Ability to exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member. Willingness to bring energy, expertise and commitment to the role, and potentially broaden the diversity of thinking on our board. A relevant postgraduate health-related qualification At least 3 years’ relevant professional experience In-depth knowledge of obesity, including its causes and consequences, and the pros and cons of different approaches to tackling childhood obesity Experience of taking part in initiatives to reduce childhood obesity, and/or of obesity policy work, and/or of obesity-related research Based in the UK

What will you be doing?

As Trustee you’ll Ensure we continue to operate within our charitable remit (the advancement of health and the prevention of sickness) and remain true to our guiding principle that prevention is better than cure Review and approve our Annual Report and Accounts Support and provide advice on our work Attend (virtual) Board meetings As Obesity Adviser you’ll Keep us up to date with initiatives to tackle childhood obesity in the UK and other developed countries, and their effectiveness. Identify any potential gaps in the way childhood obesity is being tackled and, where feasible, how we might contribute to filling these gaps, including working with external partners. Lead our evidence submissions in relation to obesity, including to Parliamentary committees.
