The Law Society
The Role

The Law Society is the professional body for solicitors in England and Wales. Members of the Governance team support our elected and appointed members, who are solicitors drawn from a wide variety of types of legal practice and different sectors of the community.

Responsibilities

In this role you will be one of the Governance Officers responsible for ensuring excellent service to our Council, Board and Committees. This will include for example:

  • Scheduling and making all necessary arrangements for elections
  • Recording and keeping under review processes for elections
  • Ensuring that documentation for elections is collated in a timely fashion and is in required format
  • Participating in or leading on team initiatives as may be requested from time to time

Governance Officers also cover for one another on an ad-hoc basis during periods of annual leave or sickness, including organising and minuting of meetings.

What We're Looking For

You will have proven experience of working in a governance or related role and understanding of how a successful governance team operates, with confidence in use of Microsoft Office and the ability to become familiar with new systems quickly.

You will also have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal with sometimes demanding individuals and competing priorities, with the intellectual ability to understand the regulations and processes governing elections.

Experience of election processes for a membership organisation or a local authority is not essential but will be preferred.

What's In It For You

This is an excellent opportunity to work with contemporary thinkers in a progressive membership organisation. The successful candidate will join a strong brand with a reputation for excellence and legal expertise, committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, and a culture of trust, clarity, excellence and respect.

Please take care if you plan on using generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in your application. We’re not wholly against the use of AI, but we want to learn about you, your values, your skills and your experience. Generic and unedited application answers from AI tools like Chat GPT, Gemini, or Copilot will nullify your entire application.

We offer hybrid working, a generous flexible benefits package, a friendly working environment and the opportunity to develop your career within a professional organisation.

Please note: if you are an internal applicant, Pay Policy will apply.

The Law Society represents solicitors in England and Wales. From negotiating with and lobbying the profession's regulators, government and other decision makers, to offering training and advice, we're here to help, protect and promote solicitors.
