As Second in Charge, you will work closely with the Head of Department to lead teaching and learning, drive student outcomes, and support department staff. Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Science in leading the department, including planning, assessment, and curriculum development.
- Deliver outstanding lessons in your specialist subject (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics) across Key Stages 3 to 5.
- Contribute to the strategic development of the Science curriculum and enrichment activities.
- Provide mentoring and support for colleagues within the department.
- Assist in analysing student performance data and implementing strategies to improve attainment and progress.
- Uphold high standards of teaching and learning in line with the school's ethos and values.
- Lead departmental initiatives and deputise for the Head of Science as needed.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- A strong academic background in a Science discipline.
- Proven track record of excellent classroom practice and student progress.
- Experience teaching Science at KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable).
- Evidence of leadership capacity or experience in a departmental role (e.g., Key Stage Coordinator, subject lead).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- Passion for Science education and the ability to inspire students and staff alike.
- Must have a Right to Work in the UK!
