The context

My client are midway through a migration to Shopify. As part of this evolution, they are designing and building their mobile app from scratch. The current app is essentially a mobile extension of their website: shopping-focused and functional. They intend for the new app to be something more ambitious: a place where customers feel genuine connection to the brand, products and suppliers of the products they sell.

Alongside the app, there is a need to define the community vision for the Shopify website, so this role starts broader than just mobile, and narrows into a clear app strategy from there.

The role

This is a zero-to-one product leadership role. You'll join a few months ahead of the team, giving you the space to do the discovery and strategic work properly before the build begins.

In the early months you'll:

• Define the community strategy across platforms - what does community look like on the website and in the app?
• Shape the app vision in close collaboration with design, product, tech, and stakeholders
• Lead stakeholder alignment across a business that will have strong opinions and a lot of enthusiasm

Once the entire team is in place, you'll:

• Partner with app designers and engineers to create a detailed build and roll-out plan
• Lead the team through delivery

This is a high-profile project that the whole business will want to be part of. You'll need to channel that energy well - keeping stakeholders engaged and aligned without losing momentum.

What we're looking for

• Proven experience taking a consumer app from zero to one - you've owned vision, led discovery, and shipped
• Background in eCommerce, with experience in businesses with community, loyalty, or subscription models
• Strong stakeholder management skills - comfortable leading without authority, aligning people across functions
• Fast-paced and collaborative - we move quickly, and we need someone who thrives in that environment
• Commercially minded, genuine customer empathy; able to get under the skin of our customers and strategy
