We are looking for a proactive and experienced Senior SHE Manager with a focus on environment and property. You play a critical role in safeguarding SGN’s people, reputation and license to operate. You will ensure safety is governed, understood and lived throughout the organisation in line with our Zero Harm initiative.

You will lead environmental performance across our operations. This role will play a key part in defining and driving the environmental strategy, ensuring it meets legal, regulatory, and operational standards while driving a strong safety culture across the business.

We deliver safety, warmth, and comfort to homes and businesses. Every role, whether in the office or on the front line, plays a key part in this mission. Here’s how you will contribute…

  • Lead the development, maintenance, and continual improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS), ensuring ongoing compliance with ISO 14001 requirements and supporting best practice across the business
  • Provide environmental leadership and advice, ensuring compliance with relevant environmental legislation, regulations, and industry standards
  • Monitor environmental policy and regulatory developments, assessing potential impacts and supporting the business to respond effectively to changing requirements
  • Lead and support environmental initiatives that contribute to waste reduction, circular economy principles, carbon reduction, and the delivery of wider sustainability objectives
  • Provide environmental governance and support across SGN's property portfolio, ensuring risks and compliance obligations are effectively managed.
  • Support property and asset activities by identifying and managing environmental risks associated with land and buildings.
  • Improve the quality, management, and use of environmental data, providing reporting, analysis, and insights to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement
  • Build effective relationships with operational teams, contractors, and stakeholders to embed environmental governance and responsible environmental practices across the organisation
  • Support the delivery of the Environmental Strategy, emergency preparedness arrangements, and wider SHE objectives, promoting a positive and inclusive culture of environmental responsibility

What you will need

  • A qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, Risk Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience developing, implementing, and continuously improving health, safety, and environmental management systems, including ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001
  • Strong understanding of relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, with the ability to interpret requirements and translate them into practical business solutions
  • Experience using data, reporting tools, and digital management systems to monitor performance, identify trends, and support effective governance and decision-making
  • Ability to build effective relationships and provide clear advice and guidance to a range of stakeholders, including operational teams and senior leaders
  • Experience working in a regulated, operational, infrastructure, utilities, energy, or similarly complex environment, with a focus on risk management, compliance, and continuous improvement

Preferred experience

  • Experience supporting or leading governance, assurance, audit, or compliance programmes
  • Experience engaging with regulators, external auditors, contractors, or industry bodies
  • Experience delivering organisational change, system improvements, or business transformation initiatives
  • Knowledge of safety-critical operations, asset-intensive environments, or major infrastructure projects would be beneficial

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH)
