An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Director to join a well-established charitable organisation on a fixed-term basis. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and forming part of the Executive Leadership Team, you will provide strategic financial leadership during a significant period of organisational development and transformation. This role will be responsible for ensuring financial stability, strengthening governance and controls, overseeing audit programmes, and supporting the development of long-term financial strategies. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving organisational performance, supporting senior stakeholders, and ensuring the finance function operates effectively within a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day finance function, ensuring effective financial management, governance and internal controls
- Provide strategic financial guidance and support to the Chief Executive Officer, Board and senior leadership team
- Monitor cash flow, reserves, financial risks and overall organisational performance
- Lead the development and delivery of long-term financial strategies, business plans and financial modelling
- Oversee annual budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes across the organisation
- Manage external audit requirements, ensuring recommendations are implemented and controls are strengthened
- Lead internal audit and assurance activities, supporting risk management and compliance objectives
- Review and enhance financial regulations, policies, procedures and governance frameworks
- Provide accurate and insightful financial reports to senior leaders, committees and governing bodies
- Oversee management accounting, KPI reporting, cashflow forecasting and financial performance analysis
- Provide strategic oversight of finance systems and digital transformation initiatives
- Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing finance team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and accountability
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent)
- Significant experience in a senior finance leadership position
- Proven track record of working with Boards, Trustees, Committees and Executive Teams
- Extensive experience in strategic financial planning, budgeting and forecasting
- Strong knowledge of audit, assurance, risk management and governance frameworks
- Experience leading organisational change, finance transformation and systems implementation projects
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial audiences
- Strong leadership skills with experience developing and motivating high-performing teams
- Previous experience in the charity, not-for-profit, housing or regulated sectors would be advantageous
Location: London (Hybrid Working Available)
Salary: £80,000 - £90,000 per annum + benefits
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Contract: Fixed-term contract until March 2027 (8 month FTC
Working Pattern: 3 days per week on site
