Product Controller | Energy Trading

We're partnering with a leading international energy trading firm seeking an experienced Product Controller to support a high-performing Front Office trading business. This is a commercially focused role, working directly with Traders across complex commodities markets, providing accurate P&L reporting, valuation control and financial insight on a broad range of derivative products.

This position offers exposure to sophisticated trading strategies across Power, Gas, LNG, Environmental Products and other commodity markets, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced Front Office environment.

As Product Controller, you'll act as the primary Finance business partner to the trading desks, taking ownership of daily P&L reporting while ensuring robust valuation governance across complex derivative portfolios.

You'll work closely with Trading, Market Risk, Operations and Finance to challenge valuations, investigate P&L movements and provide commercial insight into trading performance.

1. Produce, review and explain daily P&L for multiple trading desks.
2. Deliver accurate daily, weekly and monthly P&L reporting to Front Office stakeholders.
3. Perform detailed P&L attribution, analysing market moves, new trades, time decay and valuation adjustments.
4. Challenge trader marks through Independent Price Verification (IPV) processes.
5. Review valuations across complex financial and physical derivative portfolios.
6. Analyse balance sheet movements and support month-end close activities.
7. Investigate pricing discrepancies, booking issues and trade lifecycle exceptions.
8. Work closely with Traders to understand strategies and explain financial performance.
9. Partner with Market Risk and Finance to ensure appropriate valuation controls are maintained.
10. Support new product approvals, valuation methodologies and model governance.
11. Drive automation and process improvement initiatives across Product Control.

We're looking for candidates with significant Product Control experience gained within an Energy Trading firm, Commodity Trading House or Investment Bank.

You'll ideally demonstrate:

1. Extensive Product Control experience supporting Front Office trading businesses.
2. Strong experience producing and explaining daily trader P&L.
3. Deep understanding of complex derivative products, including futures, forwards, swaps and options.
4. Experience supporting commodity trading desks covering Power, Gas, LNG, Oil, Environmental Products or broader energy markets.
5. Strong knowledge of valuation methodologies and Mark-to-Market principles.
6. Experience performing Independent Price Verification (IPV).
7. Strong understanding of Fair Value Adjustments (FVA), reserves and valuation controls.
8. Excellent knowledge of the full trade lifecycle.
9. Experience partnering directly with Traders and challenging Front Office valuations where appropriate.
10. Advanced Excel skills with SQL experience; Power BI, Python or VBA would be advantageous.
