Assistant Headteacher - KS2 - Brent

Assistant Headteacher - Primary School
Brent, North West London
Full-Time | September Start
QTS & Strong KS2 Experience Essential

SANZA Teaching Agency is working with a welcoming and ambitious primary school in Brent to recruit an experienced and inspirational Assistant Headteacher for September.

This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding primary practitioner and experienced leader to join the school's Senior Leadership Team, with a particular responsibility for driving standards and supporting teaching and learning across Key Stage 2.

The Headteacher is specifically looking for someone with substantial and successful KS2 experience. You must have an excellent understanding of teaching and learning across Years 3-6, the KS2 National Curriculum, assessment and pupil progress.

Applications are welcomed from existing Assistant Headteachers, as well as highly successful KS2 Phase Leaders, Year Group Leaders or experienced middle leaders who are ready to progress into senior leadership.

The Role

Working closely with the Headteacher and SLT, you will play an important role in the strategic and day-to-day leadership of the school.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strong and visible leadership across KS2
  • Driving consistently high standards of teaching and learning
  • Monitoring attainment and pupil progress across Years 3-6
  • Supporting and developing teachers through coaching, mentoring and constructive feedback
  • Monitoring teaching through learning walks, observations, book scrutiny and pupil voice
  • Supporting the continued development of the KS2 curriculum
  • Ensuring high standards in reading, writing and mathematics
  • Leading and contributing to pupil progress meetings
  • Identifying areas for improvement and implementing effective strategies
  • Developing the effectiveness of middle and subject leaders
  • Leading staff meetings and professional development
  • Supporting behaviour, inclusion and pastoral provision
  • Contributing to the School Development Plan and wider school improvement
  • Supporting preparations for external review and inspection
  • Promoting a strong culture of safeguarding throughout the school

The successful candidate will be a visible, approachable and hands-on leader who remains closely connected to classroom practice.

The Successful Candidate

To be considered for this Assistant Headteacher position, you will need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Substantial KS2 teaching experience - essential
  • A strong track record as an excellent classroom practitioner
  • Successful leadership experience within a primary school
  • Excellent knowledge of the KS2 National Curriculum
  • Strong understanding of KS2 assessment and pupil progress
  • Experience improving teaching and learning
  • Experience coaching and developing other teachers
  • Strong curriculum knowledge
  • High expectations for behaviour and achievement
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence supporting and challenging colleagues
  • A collaborative and positive approach to leadership
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and inclusion

Strong KS2 Experience Is Essential

For this particular appointment, the school requires someone with a genuine depth of KS2 experience.

You should understand the expectations across Years 3-6, including curriculum progression, assessment, pupil outcomes and preparing children successfully for the transition to secondary school.

Candidates whose experience has predominantly been within EYFS or KS1 without significant KS2 experience are unlikely to be suitable.

Who Should Apply?

This could be an excellent next step for:

  • An existing Assistant Headteacher looking for a new challenge
  • A successful KS2 Phase Leader
  • An experienced Upper KS2/Year 6 Leader
  • A strong English or Maths Leader with significant KS2 experience
  • An ambitious primary middle leader ready to progress into SLT

Previous Assistant Headteacher experience is desirable but not essential if you can demonstrate strong leadership impact and are ready for senior leadership.
