What you’ll be taking ownership of as Electrical Maintenance Engineer:
  • Carrying out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) to ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of electrical systems, installations, and equipment on a central London campus.
  • Responding promptly to reactive maintenance requests and resolve faults efficiently to minimise disruption to university operations.
  • Performing inspection, testing, and maintenance of systems to ensure statutory and legal compliance (e.g. emergency lighting, fixed wire testing, PAT testing).
  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults across a wide range of systems, including distribution boards, lighting, small power, and control panels.
  • Ensuring all works are completed in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations, and university safety procedures.
  • Maintaining up-to-date records of all statutory testing, maintenance, and repairs using the university’s CAFM (Computer-Aided Facilities Management) app.
  • Forming part of the dedicated-on call engineering team with scheduled / rota on call weeks.
What you’ll bring to the team as Electrical Maintenance Engineer at King’s College London:
  • Recognised qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds / AM2/ Electrical Apprenticeship JTL or similar)
  • 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations certification
  • Proven experience in a similar maintenance role, ideally within a large and complex estate
  • Strong fault-finding skills and ability to work independently under pressure
  • Good knowledge of health and safety practices in a maintenance environment

Desirable experience includes working within an educational or public sector environment, alongside HV/LV Authorised Person status and a Level 3 qualification in Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations (2391/2394+2395). Knowledge of electrical energy efficiency or sustainability initiatives would be beneficial, as would a mechanical qualification or relevant experience with BMS and controls.

Working hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, based on one of Kings College London’s campuses in Central London.
