About GIND UK

GIND UK is a façade access maintenance provider working on some of the best-known buildings in London, including 52 Lime Street (The Scalpel), One Blackfriars Road, Southbank Place, London Wall Place, The Leadenhall Building and HSBC Tower. The business is growing and we are recruiting an experienced Cradle Engineer to strengthen our maintenance team.

The role

You will maintain, repair and test permanently installed suspended access equipment across our client portfolio: building maintenance units (BMUs), cradles, monorails, davits and the fall-arrest and safety-line systems that go with them. The work covers the structural, mechanical and electrical aspects of the equipment — planned maintenance visits, fault-finding and repairs, call-outs, and supporting inspection and testing under LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, BS 6037, BS 7883, SAFed LG3 and SAEMA guidance.

There is also the opportunity to be involved in the testing and commissioning of new access systems, as we partner with the company that supplies and installs them.

Location and travel

The role is based in central London, with planned visits and call-outs across our client sites. Because of the call-out and standby element, you will need to live within commuting distance of central London. A London travel card is provided. We are not able to offer relocation assistance for this role.

What you will do

• Visit client premises to maintain and repair suspended access equipment, cradle and BMU systems, fall-arrest/restraint and safety-line systems.

• Fault-find on control panels, electrical circuits and electromechanical drives; fix faults or arrange replacement parts.

• Produce clear technical reports of faults and defects, and complete daily job reports and maintenance records accurately and on time.

• Support periodic inspection and testing — LOLER thorough examinations and LG3 ten-year works — alongside our senior engineers.

• Keep on-site maintenance stock accurate and periodically inspect tools and equipment.

• Work to RAMS, manufacturer instructions and company procedures; report unsafe situations and set out any special requirements before starting a task.

Essential requirements

• Hands-on experience maintaining and repairing BMUs, cradles or similar suspended access equipment.

• Experience with lifting equipment and hoisting systems — winches, hoists, wire ropes and lifting accessories.

• Experience working at height using harness-based fall-arrest/restraint systems, and accessing roofs and machinery platforms via fixed ladders and hatches; working knowledge of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and HSWA 1974.

• Electrical fault-finding on control panels — contactors, relays, inverters, limit switches and pendant controls — and the ability to read electrical schematics and engineering drawings.

• Electromechanical experience — motors, gearboxes, brakes, hydraulics and drives.

• Able to manage a varied workload, work on your own initiative and as part of a team, and communicate clearly with clients on site.

Desirable

• Electrical or mechanical qualification — NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds (1, 2, 3).

• Experience commissioning and testing plant and equipment.

• Programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and control systems.

• Equipment installation, slinging and crane operations.

• Inspection of PFPE, safety lines, anchors and PPE.

• Experience on cranes, lifts, escalators or site plant involving hydraulics and/or hoisting equipment.

• Knowledge of LOLER, PUWER and PPE regulations.

Package and progression

£35,000 to £38,000 per annum, dependent on experience, plus a London travel card, company phone and tablet, overtime at enhanced rates and private health insurance. We invest in training — manufacturer courses, electrical and mechanical qualifications and competency development — and there is a clear route into senior engineer and supervisory roles.
