Direct Labour Operative / Handyman – 6 months
Central London| £23.68 per hour (umbrella) | 37.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday
We are recruiting for a skilled and customer-focused Direct Labour Operative / Handyman to join a busy in-house repairs team responsible for maintaining a well-established residential estate in Central London.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced multi-trade operative who takes pride in delivering high-quality repairs, excellent customer service, and ensuring residents' homes are safe, secure, and well maintained.
The Role
Key duties include:
- Undertaking day-to-day responsive repairs and planned maintenance works.
- Carrying out multi-trade repairs including basic plumbing, carpentry, plastering, tiling, glazing, lock replacements, and general building fabric repairs.
- Diagnosing faults and identifying practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Completing repairs within agreed timescales and quality standards.
- Inspecting properties and communal areas, identifying maintenance and health & safety issues.
- Maintaining accurate records of completed works, materials used, and time spent.
- Managing tools, equipment, and materials effectively.
- Ensuring full compliance with health and safety procedures.
- Providing a professional and customer-focused service when working in residents' homes.
About You
We are looking for an experienced maintenance professional who can work independently while delivering a high standard of workmanship and customer care.
You will have:
- Experience as a Handyman, Maintenance Operative, Multi-Trade Operative, Repairs Operative, or Tradesperson within housing.
- Practical skills across multiple trades including plumbing, carpentry, plastering, tiling, and general repairs.
- The ability to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety practices, including safe use of tools and equipment.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- The ability to manage your own workload and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Basic IT skills for completing job records and using mobile devices.
Desirable
- NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent trade qualification.
- Asbestos Awareness training.
- Working at Height or Ladder Safety certification.
