About the Opportunity

Are you a seasoned legal professional ready to shape the future of scripted entertainment? Through Aquent, we are seeking an exceptional Business and Legal Affairs expert to join a fast-paced team responsible for supporting the development and production of critically acclaimed scripted series. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in the lifecycle of exciting new projects, from initial concept to screen, ensuring creative visions are realized within a robust legal framework. Your expertise will directly influence the success of captivating stories, making a tangible impact on content that resonates with millions globally. This is a 6-month contract, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to a world-renowned entertainment platform.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as a key legal and business advisor, working both independently and collaboratively on a wide range of business and legal affairs matters throughout the entire lifecycle of scripted series.
  • Commercially negotiate and draft development and commissioning agreements with third-party production companies.
  • Commercially negotiate and draft talent agreements, including those for writers, directors, producers, and cast.
  • Draft, commercially negotiate, and review underlying rights agreements, providing expert advice on commercial and legal issues arising from chain of title reviews.
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure all legal documentation complies with company requirements and provide support for any production-related queries.
  • Partner closely with third-party production companies, fostering strong working relationships.
  • Seek and analyze specialist advice from various internal legal teams to navigate complex issues.
  • Liaise with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless alignment and efficient information flow across projects.

What You’ll Bring

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Solid relevant experience in a media law firm, film or television production company, or broadcaster.
  • Working knowledge of the relevant television production landscape, industry norms, and union agreements.
  • Proven experience leading deal negotiations and drafting contracts, including rights acquisition, writers, directors, cast, producers, production partners, or broadcasters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly.
  • Comfortable counseling business partners and making informed decisions that consider both legal and business implications.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and sound judgment, even under pressure.
  • Ability to work proactively, independently, and reliably within tight timeframes in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • A collaborative mindset, capable of working effectively cross-functionally, thinking practically, and offering solution-oriented approaches.
  • Curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to tackle matters outside your immediate area of expertise.
  • A strong commitment to embracing and advocating for inclusion in all aspects of your work.
