MLC Partners are recruiting for an experienced Senior Operations Manager to join a London-based NHS organisation on an initial six-month contract.

This is a senior operational management role, providing leadership and oversight across a portfolio of clinical services. You will work closely with Service Managers, clinical leadership and the wider divisional management team to maintain grip on operational delivery, improve performance and support service development.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide senior operational leadership and line management to Service Managers, ensuring services are effectively managed and operational issues are resolved quickly.
  • Drive delivery against key NHS performance standards, including RTT, cancer and emergency care/access targets.
  • Maintain oversight of operational performance, workforce, budgets and service delivery, identifying and addressing areas of underperformance.
  • Lead on demand and capacity, patient flow and access improvement, using performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support financial delivery, including budget management, productivity, efficiency, income generation and delivery of CIP/QIP schemes.
  • Lead and support service redesign, transformation and improvement projects across the division.
  • Ensure effective governance, risk and quality management arrangements are embedded across services.
The ideal candidate

You will be an experienced NHS operational manager with a strong track record of managing complex services and delivering against challenging performance targets.

You will ideally have:

  • Substantial management experience within an NHS, healthcare or closely related environment.
  • Strong operational and performance management experience.
  • Proven leadership and staff management capability, with confidence managing and influencing teams at different levels.
  • Experience working with performance, access, workforce and financial information.
  • Strong understanding of NHS governance, quality and service improvement.
  • Experience of project, change or transformation delivery.
  • The ability to operate confidently in a fast-paced environment, prioritise competing demands and quickly establish grip across a portfolio of services.

This would suit an established Band 8a or above Service Manager or an experienced operational manager looking for their next assignment within a busy London NHS environment.
