Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Finance Analyst for our client, a local government organisation based in Wembley, London.

The successful post holder will provide financial accounting and reporting support to the Pension Fund, including the preparation of annual accounts, monitoring information, statutory returns and reports for Pension Fund Committees and Boards.

The role will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial records, completing reconciliations and year-end adjustments, responding to audit queries and supporting effective financial controls. There will also be opportunities to support investment-related activities, including investment strategy and transactions.

This is a temporary contract for an initial 6 months, with the possibility of extension. Hybrid working is available, with 3 days per week in the office.

Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Produce timely and accurate financial reports, including the Pension Fund annual accounts and annual report.
  • Ensure the financial ledger reconciles to LGPS and Teachers’ Pensions contribution and payment records.
  • Ensure income and expenditure is accurately reported and resolve any discrepancies or ledger issues.
  • Prepare year-end adjustments, including accruals and valuations, and complete supporting working papers.
  • Prepare notes to the Pension Fund accounts and respond promptly to auditors' queries.
  • Complete statutory and statistical returns in line with relevant requirements.
  • Provide financial monitoring information to support effective management of the Fund.
  • Support the preparation of reports for Pension Fund Committees and Boards.
  • Analyse financial and non-financial information, identifying trends, risks and potential issues.
  • Extract, manipulate and present financial data using Oracle Financial Systems and related reporting tools.
  • Support project management activities and provide presentations or training where required.
  • Support investment-related activities, including investment strategy development and facilitating transactions.

Personal Requirements:

  • AAT qualified, part-qualified CCAB or CII with ongoing study, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Good knowledge of financial accounting, controls, accounting principles and statutory reporting.
  • Experience using Oracle Financial Systems, Business Objects and ADI.
  • Experience preparing accounting statements, financial reports and government returns.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to investigate issues and interpret complex financial information.
  • Experience working with banking or financial systems and knowledge of relevant banking regulations.
  • Knowledge of local government funding arrangements, capital accounting and regulatory requirements.
  • Good understanding of Income Tax, VAT and related financial processes.
  • Experience of project management and working to deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present information and provide guidance to a wide audience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Working Hours: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Pay: £450.00 per day
