SOC Manager - MSSP

London - 3 days per week | Monday-Friday, daytime hours only | Up to £95,000 + benefits

This is an opportunity to take ownership of an established MSSP SOC and help shape what it becomes next.

We're looking for an experienced SOC Manager / SOC Service Manager who understands that running a good SOC is about much more than monitoring alerts. You'll need genuine experience working in a customer-facing MSSP environment, managing expectations, SLAs, service delivery and the architecture of security solutions and services.

This isn't a hands-on SOC role, although there's absolutely nothing wrong with someone who likes to keep their technical knowledge current. Your primary responsibility will be to own, improve and grow the service, whilst empowering an existing team to become better, more efficient and more capable.

And importantly, this will be yours to own, grow and be proud of.

What will you be doing?

You'll take responsibility for the ongoing development and performance of the SOC service, working across people, processes, customers and technology.

That could include:

  • Owning the SOC service and continually improving its quality, efficiency and capability.
  • Managing customer relationships, expectations, SLAs, service reviews and escalations.
  • Working with customers and internal teams to understand requirements and design appropriate MSSP security solutions.
  • Having a good understanding of how SOC services fit together with technologies such as SIEM, SOAR, EDR/XDR and threat intelligence.
  • Helping shape the architecture and implementation of customer solutions, without needing to be the person configuring everything yourself.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve automation, orchestration and use of technology.
  • Supporting the implementation and adoption of SOAR and other automation capabilities.
  • Working alongside other MSSP services such as Vulnerability Assessment, Vulnerability Management, MDR, SIEM and incident response.
  • Improving processes, procedures, playbooks and operational standards.
  • Developing and mentoring the existing SOC team, helping people improve their technical and professional capabilities.
  • Identifying skills gaps and putting appropriate training, tooling and enablement in place.
  • Introducing new ideas, technologies and ways of working that make the service genuinely better.
  • Helping the SOC scale as the customer base and service offering grows.

Who are we looking for?

We're particularly interested in people who have grown an MSSP SOC through a period of change or expansion.

Perhaps you've inherited a small or developing SOC and had to bring some structure to it. Maybe you've improved processes, introduced automation, helped implement SOAR, redesigned the service around customer requirements or simply taken a team that was working hard and helped them work smarter.

The SOC already exists. The team is there. What it needs is someone who can take ownership.

Someone who can look at the service and ask:

How can we make this better?

  • How can we improve the customer experience?
  • How can we automate the repetitive stuff?
  • How can we make our analysts more effective?
  • Where are our processes holding us back?
  • What technology should we be using?
  • What should we stop doing?
  • What should we be doing differently?
  • How do we build a service that can grow without simply throwing more people at it?

If you've been through similar growing pains before, you'll understand exactly what we're looking for.

This is a chance to take a good SOC and make it genuinely excellent.

Right to work: You must have full, permanent right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship or relying on a temporary visa. Unfortunately, Graduate/PSW and Student visas cannot be accepted for this position.

If you've taken a small MSSP SOC through its growing pains, improved the service, developed the people and made the technology work harder, we really want to hear from you.

This could be yours to own, grow and be proud of.
