International Payroll Specialist

Salary: £50,000–£55,000

Location: London

Working Pattern: Hybrid

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Reports to: Finance Director

Role: Standalone International Payroll Specialist

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of payroll delivery across a growing portfolio of European countries.
• Work closely with local payroll providers, accountants and consultants to ensure accurate and timely processing.
• Manage payroll inputs including starters, leavers, timesheets, overtime, bonuses and adjustments.
• Review and validate gross-to-net calculations and payroll outputs.
• Ensure payrolls comply with relevant local legislation, tax and statutory requirements.
• Reconcile payroll data and provide accurate reporting to Finance and HR.
• Investigate discrepancies and resolve employee payroll queries.
• Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records.
• Support internal and external payroll audits where required.
• Improve controls, processes and reporting as the international payroll function develops.
• Help assess which payroll activities can gradually be brought in-house as the business grows.
• Support payroll setup and implementation as the company enters additional European markets.

Ideal Candidate

• Strong international / multi-country European payroll experience.
• Experience with Finnish payroll is highly desirable and will be a major advantage.
• Candidates with strong experience across at least 1–2 relevant European countries will be considered.
• Nordic payroll knowledge would be particularly valuable, including Finland, Norway and/or Denmark.
• Approximately 3–5+ years' international payroll experience.
• Strong understanding of end-to-end payroll including starters, leavers, adjustments, bonuses and reconciliations.
• Experience managing relationships with outsourced payroll providers.
• Confident interpreting local payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
• Advanced Excel skills are essential.
• Exposure to systems such as NMBRS, Tripletex, Visma, Mepco, Hogia or Procountor would be advantageous, but specific system experience is not essential.
• Highly organised, self-motivated and comfortable operating in a standalone role without daily supervision.
• Comfortable working within a fast-growing business where payroll processes are continuing to evolve.
