Apprentice Mechanical Engineer – Great Ormond Street Hospital

Kickstart your career in Building Services Engineering with Dalkia Engineering and play a part in delivering innovative, energy-efficient solutions across the UK. We're looking for a motivated and ambitious Apprentice Mechanical Engineer to join our team working at our Great Ormond Street project.

This is a fantastic apprenticeship opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards a Level 4 Building Services Engineering Senior Technician qualification. You'll get dedicated support, progress reviews, and ongoing development opportunities throughout your course.

About the Role

As a Trainee Mechanical Engineer, you'll work on this prestigious healthcare project, learning from experienced professionals and contributing to real-world engineering solutions. You'll develop technical skills, commercial awareness, and a strong understanding of project delivery in a supportive, collaborative environment.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll gain practical experience across a variety of areas, including:

• Supporting project planning and coordinating workloads alongside the Project Leadership team
• Assisting in delivering projects efficiently and profitably
• Learning how to develop project programmes and track key milestones
• Helping manage procurement schedules and ensure materials are delivered on time
• Supporting tender processes, including understanding estimates and subcontract packages
• Attending meetings with subcontractors and internal stakeholders
• Reviewing technical designs, drawings, and specifications
• Developing your understanding of health & safety standards and compliance
• Learning to interpret technical specifications, standards, and regulations

Who we're looking for; 

Essential:

• 5 GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above), including Maths, English, and Science

Desirable:

• BTEC Level 3 in Building Services Engineering

In addition, you will need to be;

• Passionate about engineering and eager to learn
• Organised, detail-oriented, and proactive
• A strong communicator and team player
• Analytical with problem-solving skills
• Able to show initiative and work well under pressure
• Driven with a winning mindset someone who takes pride in delivering high-quality work and strives for continuous improvement

Training & Development

Qualification: Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Building Services Engineering

Provider: Leeds College of Building

Format: Block release (1 week every 5 weeks) – all travel, accommodation and subsistence will be paid for by Dalkia during study weeks in Leeds.
