About the Company

We are working with a leading global technology consultancy supporting a large, regulated organisation through a major Data Strategy Enablement Programme.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-profile data transformation programme, helping establish practical governance, risk, and control processes across a complex enterprise data environment.

The Role

As a Data Governance & Controls Lead, you'll play a key role in establishing and embedding a repeatable data risk and controls process across a priority area of the organisation's data estate.

You'll be responsible for identifying and prioritising data risks and control gaps, establishing issue and remediation processes, assigning accountable owners, and driving actions through to evidenced closure. You'll also establish recurring control checks, reporting and governance routines before handing the process over for wider adoption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain data risk, control, and issue registers.
  • Identify and prioritise data risks and control gaps based on business impact and risk.
  • Establish recurring control checks with clear evidence requirements and named owners.
  • Manage remediation actions, owners, deadlines, and status through Jira.
  • Work with business and system owners to establish clear accountability for data risks and controls.
  • Coordinate the resolution and evidenced closure of priority data issues.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting to track exceptions, overdue actions, risks, and blockers.
  • Support L1/L2/L3 governance processes and regular control reviews.
  • Document governance processes, controls, and ways of working for future rollout.
  • Prepare and hand over the governance and controls process to the permanent owner.

About You

You will be an experienced Data Governance, Data Controls, or Data Risk professional with a strong background in regulated or financial services environments. You'll have hands-on experience establishing control processes, managing data issues and remediation, and working with senior stakeholders to secure accountability and drive actions through to closure.

Key requirements:

  • Proven experience in Data Governance, Data Controls, Data Risk, or a closely related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience establishing and managing data risk/control or issue registers.
  • Strong experience with remediation tracking, corrective actions, and evidenced closure.
  • Experience defining control checks, evidence requirements, owners, and review processes.
  • Practical experience using Jira to manage issues, actions, owners, and deadlines.
  • Strong stakeholder management and ability to establish clear accountability with business/system owners.
  • Experience working within regulated or financial services environments is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of L1/L2/L3 governance, data ownership, stewardship, or control frameworks.

What's on Offer

  • Day Rate: £450.00 (Inside IR35)
  • Hybrid Working
  • Immediate Start
  • Opportunity to work on a major Data Strategy Enablement Programme
  • Exposure to complex data governance, risk, and control environments
  • Opportunity to establish and embed a repeatable governance process
  • Work alongside experienced data, technology, and governance professionals

Why Apply?

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Data Governance & Controls professional to play a key role in establishing a practical risk and control process within a large, regulated organisation.

You'll have the opportunity to shape how data risks, controls, remediation, ownership, and evidence are managed, while establishing a process that can be scaled across the wider data estate.
