Interim Head of Finance | Scaling Payments FinTech | London (Hybrid)

The Opportunity

We are working with a fast-scaling FinTech that has grown quickly to serve a large customer base and is now at an important turning point. There is real momentum behind the business and ambitious plans ahead, and it needs a steady, capable pair of hands to lead its finance team through a busy period of change. For an interim finance leader who likes to roll up their sleeves and make a tangible difference quickly, this is a rare one, and the client is looking to move at pace.

Your Remit

Working closely with the CFO, you will take the reins of the day-to-day finance function at a demanding time. First and foremost this is a hands-on role: steadying and leading the team, keeping month-end, statutory and technical accounting clean and on time, and quickly getting to grips with a complex, sector-specific P&L. Beyond the day-to-day, you will take a hard look at how the team is set up, sharpen the processes and systems that underpin it, and give the CFO room to focus on the bigger strategic picture. It is an initial interim engagement with a strong likelihood of running on.

What You'll Focus On

• Owning a timely, accurate month-end close, alongside statutory and technical accounting.
• Steadying and leading the finance team through change, assessing how it is structured and shaping it for the future.
• Stripping out manual work and spreadsheet reliance, and tightening processes across the function.
• Getting more from the finance systems, building better workflows and lifting the team beyond the basics.
• Leading a team spread across more than one location, keeping everyone aligned remotely.
• Acting as a trusted partner to the CFO and wider leadership through a period of transformation.

What We're Looking For

• A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with strong technical accounting, ideally trained in audit.
• FinTech experience, with payments or consumer FinTech a real advantage, so you understand the model from day one.
• A background in fast-moving startups or scale-ups.
• Proven transformation or change experience: someone who can assess a team, make the tough calls and rebuild.
• A genuinely hands-on operator, as comfortable in the detail as leading from the front, and happy managing a remote team.

Nice To Have

• Exposure to regulated financial services.
• Experience integrating or improving finance systems in a scaling business.
• A track record of driving automation and process improvement.

Day rate: £500-£650 per day

Location: London, hybrid (three days in office: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday)

Duration: Interim, with strong scope to extend

Start: Immediate, the client needs someone full-time as soon as possible
