International Policy Adviser - #1780207
The Law Society
Date: 8 hours ago
City: London
Contract type: Internship
Work schedule: Full day

The Role
We are looking for an international policy adviser to join our team to support solicitors of England and Wales and UK law firms in growing their global footprint, with a specific focus on Europe and the CIS region.
This is a multifaceted role covering influencing, campaigning, technical analysis, relationship management and international policy development. As a Policy Adviser, you will work closely with senior members of the legal profession on a daily basis to improve market access, promote the solicitor brand, the benefits of using English and Welsh law, and England and Wales as a global legal centre, to an international audience.
Reporting to the International Policy Manager, your work will include engaging with business, regulators and governmental/non-governmental organisations in the UK and overseas in order to grow subject-matter expertise and lobby on market access issues, international trade policy and trade promotion for legal services.
What We're Looking For
You will have to have a demonstrable ability to engage with, and influence, policy development.
You will have a demonstrable ability to provide guidance to individuals or organisations on regulatory issues and/or support business development.
You will also need a strong understanding of the legal and economic system and the role of solicitors in it, and an ability to analyse complex regulatory and trade issues and assess their practical implications.
Strong written and oral communications skills, and experience of project management, are a must. A background in law or legal training and an ability to speak other major international languages are desirable.
You will need self-motivation and an ability to work with minimal supervision to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
What's In It For You
This is an excellent opportunity to work with contemporary thinkers in a progressive membership organisation. The successful candidate will join a strong brand with a reputation for excellence and legal expertise, committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, and a culture of trust, clarity, excellence and respect.
Please be mindful if you choose to use generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or Copilot) when preparing your application. While we are not entirely opposed to the use of AI, it’s essential that your responses genuinely reflect your own experience, skills, and values. Submitting generic or unedited AI-generated content may result in your application being disqualified.
We offer hybrid working, a generous flexible benefits package, a friendly working environment and the opportunity to develop your career within a professional organisation.
Please note: if you are an internal applicant, Pay Policy will apply.
