Duration of contract: 1 year fixed-term contract – potential extension subject to funding

Hours of work: 37.5 per week

Salary: £25,440 per annum

Location: QPR Stadium, Various Schools and Sports Facilities across West London

Reports to: Primary Stars Manager

Department: QPR Community Trust – Education Department

Role Summary:

The main purpose of this role is to contribute to the delivery of QPR Primary Stars, part of the Premier League’s flagship schools programme.

As a Primary Stars Officer you will support and deliver a range of curricular and extra-curricular activities within local primary schools. You will also be required to develop learning resources, deliver and evaluate interventions and contribute to the delivery of whole school activities such as PSHE themed assemblies, collapsed curriculum days and festivals.

During school holiday periods you may be required to work across other Trust departments supporting a variety of projects.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver the P.E & school sport themed strands of the QPR Primary Stars programme. This is to include (not exhaustive)
  • Engage and inspire participants (aged 5 - 11) in the programme
  • Develop, refine and deliver learning resources for P.E.
  • Deliver extra-curricular sports club
  • Mentor school staff in PE
  • Classroom support for pupils 1:1 or in small groups.
  • Plan and deliver whole school collapsed curriculum days and assemblies.
  • Complete monitoring & evaluation in line with PLCF and QPR policies
  • Deliver Literacy, Numeracy and PSHE interventions to individuals, small groups or whole classes
  • Engage with schools and participants in Social Action projects, particularly climate change awareness
  • Liaise with a number of partners across a range of schools and organisations
  • Plan and deliver appropriate activities that fulfil the national curriculum requirements.
  • Ensure that suitable progression pathways are available for young people to reach the most suitable level of participation, regardless of their ability or personal circumstances. This will involve linking and maintaining a relationship with relevant schools and clubs.
  • Deliver against agreed targets as per the project plan and funding conditions.
  • Organise, manage and deliver other events as relevant to the programme, for example tournaments and festivals, open/taster days or education workshops.
  • Work as part of a coaching team in the Education Department, liaising with; teachers, parents and colleagues to ensure the ongoing continuation and expansion of locally based activities.
  • When required, provide cover and assistance for other coaching staff across all boroughs/areas that the Trust operates. This cover may extend to attending meetings, conferences, workshops and events if required.
  • Where appropriate, support the development of work experience trainees in order to increase their personal skills.
  • Continually monitor and evaluate all sessions, activities and programmes and adapt delivery accordingly.
  • Respond to general enquiries and deal efficiently with any administration requirements resulting from the implementation of activities i.e. provide basic monitoring information as required, production of activity registers, update the database and provide statistics when required.
  • Retain young people in sport by providing guidance on progression, exit routes and further sporting and leisure opportunities based on the young person’s interests and abilities.
  • Adapt sessions to cater for differing ranges of ability.
  • Commit to a programme of continuing personal development (CPD)
  • Ensure all activities are delivered to the standards outlines in the Trust/Club’s Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Child Protection policies.
  • Record and store sensitive data in line with the QPR Trust’s GDPR policies
  • Participate in the appraisal process.
  • Undertake duties to support the Club’s commercial/marketing partners.
  • Work QPR home match days, evening work, weekends and Bank holidays when instructed.
  • Undertake every opportunity to promote a positive image of QPR in the Community Trust and Queens Park Rangers Football Club.

The type of experience we are looking for:

Qualifications

  • UKCC level 2 coaching qualifications or equivalent
  • 1st4sport/afPE Level 2 or 3 in supporting PE and school sport (desirable)
  • Driver’s licence and access to vehicle (desirable)
  • In-date DBS / Safeguarding / Emergency Aid Certificates (desirable)

Skills, Knowledge, Experience

  • Coaching/teaching young people aged 5-11 years in a school setting.
  • Evaluating the impact of sessions and writing reports to reflect this
  • Knowledge of the Early Years, KS1 & KS2 curriculum, including Literacy, Numeracy, PSHE and PE (desirable)
  • Mentoring other staff through coaching / teaching (desirable)
  • Passion for working with young people and using sport to help inspire change.
  • Ability to deliver KPIs against a project plan on time and within budget
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (outlook, word, excel)

Personal Qualities

  • Sensitive to the needs of young people
  • Effective communication skills for all targeted audiences
  • Able to build positive relationships with those young people who attend your sessions.
  • Able to use a variety of delivery styles to engage and motivate individuals
  • Must be physically fit and able to work in the external environment
