We are currently looking for a Senior Design Manager who will be working in the Building Operating Unit where Skanska is delivering the construction and mechanical and electrical engineering services for the redevelopment of The Smith on the doorstep of parliament in Westminster. The project will transform a historic building into a modern nine-storey, 130,000 sq. ft office with two basement levels, retaining and restoring the original Portland stone façade while creating high-quality workspace with excellent amenities and strong heritage character.

As the Senior Design Manager, you will:

  • Manage the design process from tender through to completion, ensuring delivery meets contractual obligations, programme, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Act as a key link between the client, consultants, specialist subcontractors, and construction teams.
  • Lead multidisciplinary design teams, driving the production, coordination, and approval of design information at every project stage.
  • Ensure design outputs are timely, coordinated, buildable, and commercially viable, while managing design risk, change, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Oversee consultant appointments, chair design team meetings, review design submissions, and ensure compliance with statutory regulations, planning conditions, and building standards.
  • Lead the preparation and approval of handover documentation, including the Health & Safety File, Fire Safety Information, and Operation & Maintenance Manuals for build packages.
  • Ensure design development reflects novation requirements, liabilities, and risk allocation.
  • Support programme, procurement, and construction sequencing by working closely with commercial and project delivery teams.

We are looking for:

  • Experience delivering major, complex, high-quality projects within the commercial development sector.
  • Professionally qualified through a relevant accredited body, such as ICE, RIBA, CIOB, Engineering Council, CIHT, or IET.
  • Degree qualified, or equivalent, in Architecture, Design Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working under JCT Design & Build contracts.
  • Experience of leading the detailed design of interior packages on high quality commercial projects.
  • Experience in managing multiple designers to develop fully coordinated and compliant interface details.

What we offer:

  • 24/7 digital GP service for you and your family
  • Financial wellbeing and employee assistance
  • Professional development
  • Enhanced family benefits (including maternity, paternity, dependants and parental bereavement leave)
