Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited

Your new company
Hays have exclusively partnered with an innovative, growing biotech to hire a scientist into their R&D team based in London.
The company is focused on using advanced technologies to provide novel insights into disease mechanisms; you'll be working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a highly experienced team and state-of-the-art labs.

Your new role
As an R&D Scientist, you will play a key role in generating high-quality immune profiling data using advanced cytometry and single-cell technologies.
This is a fully lab-based position, working on a major, long-term project for the company.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out high-parameter flow cytometry assays (including 15-colour panels) to measure immune phenotype and function
  • Performing isolation of immune cells from human blood samples
  • Preparing samples for single-cell RNA sequencing workflows
  • Supporting data analysis, reporting, and storage of experimental results
  • Maintaining quality control standards across assays and laboratory processes
  • Performing routine instrument calibration and QC checks
  • Troubleshooting deviations from protocols and supporting assay optimisation
  • Contributing to laboratory operations, sample logistics, and reagent management
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting ongoing research projects

Due to the nature of the work, some weekend (Saturday) working is required. The company estimates that this will be approximately 1 in every 4 Saturdays (compensated with increased pay and time off in lieu) and done on a rota basis.

What you'll need to succeed
A strong candidate will bring hands-on immunology expertise and a proactive, detail-oriented mindset as well as:

  • A BSc / MSc / PhD (or equivalent experience) in a biological sciences discipline with relevant laboratory experience
  • Strong, hands-on experience in flow cytometry and immunophenotyping, including multi-colour panels (15 markers), with a strong preference for industry experience (ie pharmaceutical, biotech or contract research organisation)
  • Direct experience working with human blood samples and immune cell isolation, eg PBMCs
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to data quality and reproducibility
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Full right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available)
  • The ability to regularly work approximately 1 Saturday per month

Experience with spectral flow cytometry, LIMS/ELN, or regulated environments (e.g. ISO standards) is advantageous, as is familiarity with single-cell workflows (e.g. scRNA-seq sample prep for platforms such as 10X or Parse).
Candidates who have experience working with/processing biobank or similar samples are encouraged to apply.

What you'll get in return
You'll be joining an exciting biotech as they go into their next phase of growth and be working on one of their major, long term projects.
You'll get excellent training and career development, as well as a good salary and package, and a highly collaborative and supportive environment.
