Expleo are seeking an experienced Technical Rolling Stock Advisor to support the delivery of major rail projects across the UK. Working with our client based in London this exciting contract opportunity will work with train operators, ROSCOs, manufacturers, and infrastructure organisations, providing expert technical guidance throughout the rolling stock asset lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assurance and subject matter expertise across rolling stock projects, fleet introductions, vehicle modifications, refurbishments, and life-extension programmes.
  • Review engineering designs, technical specifications, requirements, and contractor submissions.
  • Ensure compliance with UK railway legislation and industry best practice.
  • Support engineering change management and design review activities.
  • Develop and review engineering safety cases, hazard logs and risk assessments.
  • Advise on fleet reliability, maintainability, availability, and safety (RAMS).
  • Assess maintenance strategies, servicing schedules, and depot maintenance requirements.
  • Support vehicle acceptance, authorisation, and introduction into service activities.
  • Analyse fleet performance data and recommend engineering improvements.
  • Engage with operators, ROSCOs, manufacturers, assessors, and regulatory stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Degree qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Rail Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience within rolling stock engineering, fleet engineering, technical assurance, or technical advisory roles.
  • Strong understanding of rolling stock systems, including traction, braking, bogies, electrical systems, HVAC, doors, and train control systems.
  • Knowledge of railway standards, engineering governance, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience reviewing design documentation and managing engineering change.
  • Understanding of safety case development, risk assessment, and hazard management processes.
  • Experience developing or reviewing maintenance and servicing requirements.
  • Knowledge of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) principles.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and technical report-writing skill
