The Opportunity
An established and growing food distribution and logistics business is looking for an experienced Food Safety & Compliance Manager to take ownership of food safety, compliance and health & safety across its warehouse and operational environment.
This is a hands-on role with real responsibility. You will be the main point of contact for food safety and compliance matters, ensuring the business remains fully aligned with legislation, industry standards and customer requirements.
You will work closely with the senior operations team and operational colleagues to maintain high standards while identifying opportunities to improve processes, systems and the overall safety culture.
Key responsibilities

This is a hands-on role with real responsibility. You will be the main point of contact for food safety and compliance matters, ensuring the business remains fully aligned with legislation, industry standards and customer requirements.
You will work closely with the senior operations team and operational colleagues to maintain high standards while identifying opportunities to improve processes, systems and the overall safety culture.
Key responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for food safety, compliance and health & safety across the operation
- Maintain and continuously review the company's HACCP plan
- Manage compliance with BRC standards and ensure the business is fully prepared for audits and inspections
- Conduct regular warehouse and operational audits covering hygiene, food storage, handling and workplace safety
- Monitor risk assessments and ensure corrective actions are completed and documented
- Ensure allergens are correctly labelled, stored and segregated to prevent contamination
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures and safe systems of work
- Keep the business informed of changes to food safety, health & safety legislation and relevant industry standards
- Lead investigations into compliance breaches and implement corrective actions
- Act as a key contact for external bodies including Environmental Health Officers and the FSA
- Support product recall procedures and customer compliance requirements
- Develop and deliver food safety, compliance and health & safety training
- Produce accurate compliance reports and KPI information for the senior leadership team
- Work with warehouse, transport and facilities teams to maintain a safe, compliant working environment
- Drive continuous improvement across food safety, hygiene and operational compliance
You will have experience working in a food, FMCG, food distribution, warehousing or logistics environment, with a strong understanding of food safety and regulatory compliance.
You will ideally have:
- Experience working with BRC standards
- Strong knowledge of food safety legislation and regulatory requirements
- Experience dealing with EHO, FSA or other external enforcement/regulatory bodies
- Experience managing food safety and compliance within a warehouse or FMCG environment
- Strong understanding of risk assessments, audits, corrective actions and safe systems of work
- HACCP Level 4
- Food Hygiene / Food Safety Level 4
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent
- Strong organisational and analytical ability
- Good working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Office
