We are looking for a proactive and reliable Caretaker / Estate Services Operative to join our Estate Services team. This is a varied, hands-on role focused on maintaining clean, safe and welcoming communal housing environments for residents across the borough.

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality estate services, helping to ensure communal areas, housing estates and shared spaces are maintained to an excellent standard while providing outstanding customer service to residents.

Location: Wembley Park, HA9

Working Hours: Full Time, Monday to Sunday (flexible shifts including evenings)

Contract: 3 months initially with potential extension

Payrate: £15.68 p/h PAYE

Key Responsibilities

As a Caretaker, your duties may include:

  • Removing bulky waste and fly-tipped items from housing estates.
  • Carrying out deep cleaning of communal internal and external areas, including bin stores and bin chambers.
  • Cleaning graffiti and helping to maintain attractive neighbourhoods.
  • Undertaking communal window cleaning up to the third floor.
  • Using a range of cleaning equipment, machinery and cleaning products safely and effectively.
  • Driving council vehicles and operating equipment required for estate services work.
  • Performing basic estate maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs and fixing signage.
  • Reporting environmental issues, repairs and health and safety concerns promptly.
  • Working closely with residents, contractors and internal council teams.
  • Supporting the prevention of anti-social behaviour, graffiti and environmental crime.
  • Providing cover across different Estate Services functions as required.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working in a cleaning, caretaking, facilities, housing or customer service environment.
  • Takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
  • Enjoys working outdoors and is comfortable undertaking physical work.
  • Has excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Is reliable, flexible and willing to support different service areas when required.
  • Is confident using mobile devices or handheld technology for recording and reporting information.
  • Understands the importance of health and safety, including safe use of cleaning materials and equipment

Essential Requirements

  • Full valid UK Driving Licence.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Experience of working with the public in a customer-facing environment.
  • Experience of cleaning or environmental maintenance duties.
  • Ability to undertake physical tasks, including lifting and moving bulky items.
  • Understanding of health and safety, COSHH and risk assessment principles.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and excellent customer care.

Desirable

  • Experience within Housing, Estate Services or Social Housing.
  • Experience working directly with residents and local communities.
  • Basic DIY or handyperson skills.
